Description | <br>Akbar Badshah or Birbal Ki Dastanain (Akbar Emperor & Birbal Stories) is an Urdu Translation by Ameer Ali Khan from the book 'Akbar Aur Birbal by Kunwar Anil Kumar' and contains 98 stories. Akbar Beerbal Stories are very famous and popular in India and Pakistan among all ages of people, also known by other names like Beerbal Stories. The Mughal Emperor, Akbar The Great ruled India from 1560 to 1605. He himself was illiterate, but he invited several learned people in his court. Among these people, nine were very famous and were called Nav Ratna (nine jewels of the Mogul Crown) of his court. Birbal was one of them and most known of his valuable advice and problems solving. Birbal (1528-1583) is surely one of the most popular figures in Indian history equally regarded by adults and children. Birbal's duties in Akbar's court were mostly administrative and military but he was a very close friend of Akbar too, because Akbar loved his wisdom, wit and subtle humor. He was a minister in the administration of Mogul Emperor Akbar and one of the members of inner council of nine advisors. The exchanges between Akbar and Birbal have been recorded in many volumes. Many of these have become folk stories in Indian tradition. Many courtiers of Akbar, were jealous with Birbal and often plotted for his downfall. There are many stories found on this issue too. We are sure, kitaabghar.com readers will enjoy reading this collection of indian folk stories filled with wit & wisdom. |

As I am a professional translator myself, I would like to comment on the very poor quality of translation. Sometimes it's so ridiculous that one doesn't know whether they should laugh or cry.
Also, some of the stories are so silly, that they are only fit to be treated as children's literature. Some themes are repeated so many times. For instance, in at least 3 stories, Beerbal leaves the court and then the emperor asks a riddle in order to find him.
Also in the preface, it was claimed that these stories are authentic and can be verified but no source of verification has been provided, and I doubt that in the ancient time Beerbal or anyone else could so easily have travelled to far and distant nations merely to solve a riddle! Like in some stories he goes to Iran, Egypt etc. to face challenges by the kings. And to the best of my knowledge, Beerbal wasn't Akbar's prime minister.
If one is to believe these stories, Akbar was exceptionally stupid and Beerbal was very cheek and rude and yet he got away with it??
