Description The book describes the history of slavery from a religious perspective. The author of this book is Mubashir Nazir. He has divided the book into six parts.

The first part includes introduction to the slavery, its types, its reasons and the method of increasing slaves.

The second part focusses on different forms of slavery prevailing in the world-before-Islam.

Part 3 explains the ways how Islam treated the slavery. How Islam established the institution of Mukatabat & State Fund? What steps were taken to increase the status of slaves? How the slaves and ex-slaves were absorbed in the Islamic society? What reforms Islam brought to deal with the war prisoners and women slaves? How did Islam abolish the Intellectual Slavery?

Part IV analyzes the institution of slavery prevailing in the Muslim world? Why did Muslim societies fail to continue the Islamic reforms to abolish both physical and intellectual slavery? What was the position of slavery in the Muslim world as compared to the Western world of that time?

Part V is about the slavery in the modern world. The author has discussed the abolition movements. He has discussed the ways in which intellectual slaves are made. He has also provided solutions to the modern slavery.

Part VI is about certain religious and intellectual questions about the Islamic teachings about the slavery.

The author has consulted several hundred books e.g. Religious Scriptures, Hadith, Fiqh, Rijaal, History to explore the issue.
