Kitaab-ur-Risala is the first book in the art of "Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence (Usul-ul-Fiqh). The book was written by Imam Shaf-ee (150-204H / 767-819 AD).

The art of Islamic Jurisprudence evolved during 7th, 8th & 9th Gregorian centuries (first three Hijra centuries). Imam Shaf-ee was the first person who wrote a book on the principles, based on which Islamic laws can be derived. They basic sources of Islamic Jurisprudence are Quran & Sunnah. Additional sources are Consensus and Logical Reasoning. Imam Shafe-e has explained the procedure for using these sources. In discussion of Quran, Imam Shaf-ee describes the procedure of determining general, specific , abrogating and abrogated directives. In discussion of Sunnah, he explains the procedure of accepting a Khabr-e-Wahid. In discussion of Ijtihaad, he explains the procedure of performing Ijtihaad. Moreover, he describes the procedure of resolving conflicts in Jurisprudence. This book has not yet been translated into easy Urdu Language. Mubashir Nazir has translated this book into Urdu and tried to convert its style into that of a modern book so that a modern person can understand the content that was written 1200 years ago. Objective of this translation is to introduce our educated people with this technical discipline. An introductory chapter to Islamic Jurisprudence has been added to the book by the translator. |
