Description <br>Maria is a beautifully written novel by Bilqees Zafar. Its a story of an illfated young orphan girl who lost everything in the riots of Indo-Pak Partition in 1947. She was a daughter of a Muslim Prime Minister of an Indian State, but hindu / sikh plunderers / looters killed everyone in her family. She managed to reach Pakistan with other refugees. An old friend of his father, gave her some papers that can help her claim her the lost fortune and vast property and huge wealth. Her relatives became her enemy for this claim and forced her to marry their loose character spoiled son. Her fate, after an accident, took her to another family, a nice man, a proud lady and one jealous girl, starting another span of her miserable life. Maria kept fighting her miserable life and unfriendly events and kept moving ahead with the help of some good friends she found.

An excellent book by Bilqees Aapa, she is one of my favorite writers. She always manages to steal my heart with her depiction of the beauty in nature. She has the ability to take you wherever she wants..make you feel what she wants and does it in a way that is completely effortless and natural! She has complete control over you as a reader and always manages to mesmerize me with her depth and knowledge of human nature.
Maria is not a story about an ordinary girl or ordinary circumstances; it is a story of bigger than life circumstances that she was faced with. Only someone with true strength can survive what Maria survived and still have such a positive outlook about life.
If I am not mistaken and if I remember correctly, Bilqees aapa is no longer with us. But she will be in our hearts forever through her writings. Someone above said the writer has a long way to go and I was shocked to read that as Bilqees Zafar is a very well-known Urdu writers and has a huge fan following. Thank you Kitaabghar for all of your efforts and for giving us the opportunity to read the wonderful work of some great writers.

Bilqees Zafar did a good effort. Start of this story was very impressive and attracted but the way Bilqees has potrait all the characters, it was not satisfying. While reading this novel I was feeling as I am not reading lives of people at the time of Partition. All the characters have potrait in a modern life style. I feel that none of those characters’s life was affected by the partition crises except Maria (only in the beginning of novel).
But, keep it up; you have still a long way to go.
